La Roche is a video made in 2014 with Carolyn Barrett, Gruffudd Edwards and Màiri Lafferty.
The video was produced during a period of living alone for the first time. I was residing in Gorgie; an area of Edinburgh near to The Caledonian Brewery. A special thank you goes to Jennifer Brown. She allowed me to live in her flat in Gorgie for next to nothing. I was able to save money to self-fund future postgraduate studies.
Some of the footage is of woodland situated in the private land of Newhall Estate, near Carlops in Midlothian, Scotland. A special thanks goes to Daniel Killeen. At the time Daniel was a tenant on the estate. He provided me with access to the private land, specifically around the River North Esk.
Predominantly, La Roche is about role play and the roles that people play in terms of friendship. And how friendships can change and be stretched. It is also about pareidolia and encounter.
I was invited to show La Roche at Larroque Arts Festival (LAF) in the summer of 2014.
